Indeed, 17 years later, Octavian, Caesar’s great nephew and legal heir to his fortune, was proclaimed ‘Augustus’
by the Roman Senate and accrued to his own person nearly every important executive, legislative, and military power.
Augusts ushered in an era of stability not seen in Rome for over a century, but after nearly 500 years, the Roman Republic was no more.
