（１） 大きなことを成し遂げるために､力を与えてほしいと神に求めたのに､ 慎み深く従順であるようにと、弱さを授かった。 （I asked God for strength, that I might achieve I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey...）
（２） より偉大なことができるようにと､健康を求めたのに､ 人生を間違わないようにと､病弱を与えられた｡ （I asked for health, that I might do greater things I was given infirmity, that I might do better things...）
（３） 幸せになろうとして､富を求めたのに､ 賢明であるようにと､貧困を授かった｡ （I asked for riches, that I might be happy I was given poverty, that I might be wise...）
（４） 世の人々の称賛を得ようとして､成功を求めたのに､ 神様の存在に自分が気付けるようにと、弱さを授かった。 （I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God...）
（５） 人生を楽しもうと､たくさんのものを求めたのに､ あらゆることを楽しめる命を、自分はすでに授かっていたことに気付いた。 （I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life I was given life, that I might enjoy all things...）
求めたものは何一つとして与えられなかったが､願いは全て聞き届けられた｡ 自分は神様の意にそわぬ者であるにもかかわらず､心の中を言い表せない祈りは全て叶えられた｡ 私はあらゆる人の中で､もっとも豊かに祝福されて「いた」のだ｡ （I got nothing that I asked for -- but everything I had hoped for Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am among all men, most richly blessed

Look at the sky. Ask yourselves: Has the sheep eaten the flower, yes or no? And you will see how everything changes. And no grown-ups will ever understand why it is so important!
